Technical Certifications Information Needed from Every Parent please.

The club urgently needs to update its database on what parents are certified/qualified in aspects of running swim meets, such as Timekeepers, IOT's, Starters, Referees, AOD experience, etc.

Many parents may have qualified in things while their swimmers have been with other clubs too that we do not know about.

The club information booklet that swimmers receive upon joining the club outlines that parents of swimmers who swim competitively (i.e. ANY meets at ANY level) are expected to do the timekeeping certification, and then with a little more time the IOT certification. The good news is - they are very straight forward to pass! The even better news is, for those that have been a bit busy and have not even done the Timekeeping cert. yet, the club is about to hold your hand (if necessary) and take you through the Timekeeping certification at the next Club Night on 14 February.

There are 2 very simple but hugely important reasons for doing so:

1. For the swimmers! They put in the hard yards at training and deserve competent people running swim meets for them.

2. To keep the lid on swim fees! Easch year the club tenders to run several of the swim meets that your swimmers participate in. These meets are important revenue earners for the club and without them fees would need to be increased to meet club costs. But the catch is this, we are only permitted to tender for them if we have a sufficient number of qualified people to assist in running them.

So can you please:

a) Reply by email if you are qualified (including if more than 1 parent is), and what it is you are qualified in.

b) If you have not yet done the Timekeeping cert., please make yourself available at 5.30pm on 14 February at club night so we can qualify you. For those of you able to do a LITTLE light reading beforehand, a supply of the Timekeeping Information booklets will be left in the front of the filing cabinet so feel free to take one (and yes, they contain a few test questions/answers if you get my point......).

Other clubs have strictly enforced who can/cannot compete at meets depending on certifications of parents. We trust the Westie spirit is still alive and well and that the big stick will not need to be waved!
